The Center for Ecological Civilization (CEC) is a new initiative uniting established governmental, commercial, academic, media and cultural resources with both Chinese and internationally-recognized experts to promote environmental well-being, ecological culture and green solidarity. We provide platforms in the greater Shanghai area, one of the most economically important and ecologically vulnerable regions in the world, to reinforce environmental protection efforts and to support new initiatives aiming to mitigate challenges associated with climate change and the Anthropocene, with special emphases on the promotion of green innovation and development, green energy transitions, responsible waste management, and wetlands protections, in China and beyond.
The CEC advances its mission by:
1. Advising officials as they develop, implement and assess environmental policies.
2. Consulting with enterprises seeking relevant best practices and when appropriate, promoting their projects as model case studies demonstrating social and ecological responsibility.
3. Developing and disseminating ecological culture and related social marketing through a broad array of domestic and international media.
4. Fostering an exemplary ecological university by conducting cutting-edge environmental research, hosting events bringing together key environmental voices and stakeholders from around the world, and encouraging reforms that help set the standard for institutional responsibility.
CEC is led by the School of Politics and International Relations at East China Normal University (ECNU) in partnership with the School of International Chinese Language and Culture, the School of Ecological and Environmental Sciences, and the Institute of Eco-Chongming, the University’s renowned research base on the ecologically vital Chongming Island.

生态文明研究中心（CEC）是一个新型倡议平台，整合了政府、商业、学术、媒体及文化领域的现有各类资源，汇聚中外知名专家，致力于促进环境福祉、生态文化与绿色团结。我们在大上海地区（全球经济重镇之一，亦是生态脆弱区域）搭建平台，强化环保工作推进，支持各类应对气候变化与人类世相关挑战的新举措，重点聚焦绿色创新发展、绿色能源转型、负责任废弃物管理及湿地保护，业务覆盖中国及全球范围。
CEC 通过以下方式践行使命：
1. 为官员制定、实施和评估环境政策提供咨询建议
2. 为寻求相关最佳实践的企业提供咨询服务，适时将其项目推广为彰显社会与生态责任的示范案例
3. 通过各类国内外媒体，培育并传播生态文化及相关社会营销理念
4. 开展前沿环境研究，举办汇聚全球环境领域关键发声者与利益相关方的活动，推动相关改革以树立机构责任标杆，进而打造示范性生态大学
中心由华东师范大学政治与国际关系学院牵头，联合国际汉语文化学院、生态与环境科学学院及崇明生态研究院（该校位于生态关键区域崇明岛的知名研究基地）共建。
